Some Great Kitchen Tips From My April Newsletter

I just wanted to share some quick tips with everyone when it comes to the kitchen, shopping and cooking:

  • When picking bell peppers pick those up an look at the bottom also. Count the bumps. 4 bumps means it is a sweet pepper - better for summer type recipes - salads, dipping, shish-ka-bobs. Odd number of bumps (3, 5, etc) means it will not be sweet - it will have a bolder flavor that can stand up better in soups and stews - winter type recipes. Also if you aren't' going to use the entire pepper in a recipe don't cut the stem and seeds out - leave them attached and the pepper will "seal" itself off and stay fresh much longer.
  • Remember that one clove of garlic is one piece; a bulb is made of lots of cloves....if you use a whole bulb when a recipe calls for a clove; you're either going out to dinner or keeping the vampires away!
  • If you add an apple to your bag of potatoes once you get home from the grocery store, it will keep your potatoes from sprouting.

Super Duper Recipe

If you've ever been to a kitchen show...you know that you will be sampling some very good recipes!
Well, I was experimenting with some of the recipes that I received in my consultant kit and this past Monday tried the Deluxe Cheeseburger Salad...let me say, I'm not the biggest fan of tomatoes but this dish was actually delicious. For it being a salad, I didn't hear any "I'm still hungry" as the night went on. I'm going to keep experimenting until I find the ones that I will be featuring in my cooking shows over the next two months. I'll only be featuring 3 recipes in each month and the hostess/host will have to choose one that she/he will want to do at their show. I know I won't be doing the salad as this takes quite a while to make but for all the work it was delicious!!!!
